A Lovely “Eid-ning”

Week Two began with a relaxing Friday off. The morning was mostly spent lollygagging in bed. Some chose to remain in their warm happy places for the remainder of the day while others ventured to the pool. The beautifully warm day spent by the pool-side included for the most part reclining in lounge chairs, reading, and furiously applying sunscreen. The latter proved futile for one – a certain author of this blog to be exact – whose sunburn no longer resembles the flesh of a ripe tomato, but rather a pinkish glow one might expect from a sunset, which nonetheless would make any mother scowl in disappointment and bark in a shrill manner “you always need to re-apply.”

Saturday marked the beginning of our return to the daily grind. My current project is to study the ceramic assemblage from Field C and verify which sherd need redrawn. The evening was spent in a rather interesting manner. As it was the second day of Eid, we ventured to Amman to celebrate at an amusement park. Within all the hustle and bustle we made our way to the Ferris wheel, named the Moulin Rouge. Although, not as scandalous as the name suggests, our ride did provide us with a breathtaking view of Amman at night. It does not matter that the amusement park is halfway across the world, the food found at fairs will always be delicious yet slightly questionable. Firstly we ate deep-fried potatoes on a stick which were sliced in spirals then covered in a neon orange cheese powder, and secondly we ate questionable shawarma. Now in the wee hours of the morning we searched for a better source of nourishment and – as most adventures do – we ended up at McDonalds.

A late start the next day to recuperate from the previous night’s venture actually proved more difficult for some. Back onto the regular schedule we continue to work tirelessly, counting down the minutes until our next Friday.
